I Would Have Been Apathetic

While some people chose or volunteered (with or without pay) to campaign for a certain candidate, I remained to be apathetic. I have my reasons for not really rooting for any candidate in this year’s election. As for the presidentiables, I see them only as ordinary presidentiables. I don’t see a revolutionary man who can change the people and move the Philippines to the direction it’s supposed to be in.

Everyone was not convincing enough to move me to be really passionate about rooting for a certain candidate. All they did was bash the candidate of another and vice versa. Where is the integrity in that? Campaigns should not be about the current miserable situation of the country. No one is credible to blame anyone for our misery. We all contributed to this either way. I mean look at us, bashing each other’s candidates. Shouldn’t it be a campaign for who has the best vision for the country, not for the worst candidate on record? Where are the laws on slander and libel? Many have committed such crimes for destroying a candidate’s integrity. Where is the morality that we speak of?

Where is the future of the Philippines? Where are the seeds that Marcos pre-Martial Law planted? Shouldn’t Philippines be on top of other neighboring Asian countires as it had been pre-Martial Law?

I think it’s high time we stop complaining and start doing. Stop bashing each other and start believing in one another. Spark the hope once again. Be a true Filipino. The humble, hospitable, respectful, passionate Filipino.

I still hate the campaigns for destroying my mindset about the colors. Colors are supposed to brighten our days but because of politics they all swirled into one big gray area and every time I see them I am reminded of a certain candidate and how they were all stripped down naked by black propaganda, which I would rather call slander and libel.

I don’t see why there is a reason for packing up your things and heading to greener pastures. It’s called being chicken-scared of facing the reality. It’s disgusting.

My concern is not for the future President of the Philippines. Not even for the Philippines. But rather, it is for the future Filipinos.

National Elections

Today I made my vote. I practiced my right to suffrage. I did not let my vote be sold or be filled in by another person. I am proud to take part in my country’s big event.

I hope that this election will signify as our first step to progress. I believe that we all voted wisely regardless of our differences in choices. I hope that person who will become the president will realize that the people are serious about change and be inspired to fulfill his duties as our country’s leader, not destroy people’s hopes and dreams of achieving a better future.

Remember that no person alone can change our country but we ourselves must move in order for everyone to realize that we are serious about change. There is still a great hope for the Philippines to become a better country. We are, after all, a young nation.

To our future president, please give dignity to our country. To all elected officials, please work hard to pass bills that bring impact to the betterment of our county.

Please live a little longer, our dear Philippines.
